Common Problems, Easy Solutions

Illegal Parking is one of the issues for which homeowners might be seeking solutions. California State Code 226669 prohibits the storage of personal property on public streets: that means leaving something parked and unmoved for greater than 72 hours. This law covers vehicles in running condition, inoperable vehicles, utility trailers, travel trailers, boats on trailers, and motorhomes. Simply put, the public roads are not to be used as a person’s personal parking lot.

Monterey County Sheriff has direct jurisdiction and is charged with enforcement of this law, and will respond when it receives a complaint through the Monterey County Sheriff website. To report a parking problem online, look for the key words “problem vehicle” or use the specific link:

Once you have located the correct webpage, you will have to fill out a form and submit. The sheriff will take care of the rest.
